2010 FIFA World Cup: Clint Dempsey of United States injures knee in Premier League game - ESPN Soccernet

Dempsey hurt in Premier League game

LONDON -- American forward Clint Dempsey injured his knee Sunday in Fulham's 2-0 loss at Blackburn in a possible blow to American preparations for the 2010 World Cup.

Dempsey limped off after falling in the 62nd minute of the Premier League game.

"The initial prognosis for Clint is not good," Fulham manager Roy Hodgson said. "It looks like cruciate knee ligament damage and if it is it will keep him out for a while."

The World Cup starts in June in South Africa.

Dempsey produced Fulham's best effort in the first half when his overhead kick hit the crossbar.

Fulham lost its third consecutive game.

Davies, Gooch, and now Dempsey. ugh.:(

We aren't pinning our hopes on Dempsey but he was an automatic starter for us when healthy.

This a bad deal and I hope it doesn't keep him out.

On the flip side, we've got Holden and Torres waiting in the wings if the unthinkable should happen. DaMarcus Beasley is starting to recapture his old form as well.

Been on fire so far this season has Dempsey, Fantasy points are testament to that - a good player in a good side under a good manager. Would have liked a full strength US side at the WC too just to be able to judge them properly and see how far they can go. Not dropping like flies yet, but the trickle before the torrent?

Damn, Dempsey hurt tonight, first I've heard of it, I am fairly confident he will be OK for the trip to South Africa, and if not, we can always call up Makepeace.

has a goal ratio of about one every three games at International level, he's fairly tall, and is one of the better known stars of the US team to those abroad, he's in the prime of his career at only his mid 20s now, and still has time left to make further appearances on the world stage, it all depends on how future qualifications go.

Sure he scored against both Spain and Brazil as we got to the final of the Confederate Cup last year, and if we can get results against that caliber of opposition, England have every right to be nervous next summer.

A repeat of Belo Horizonte, 60 years on is a real possibility.

He could be alright. He wasnt in any serious pain coming off. In fact he walked off without a limp...you'd know if it was bad if he was rolling about in agony which he wasnt.

Could be like what happened to Torres and could be back in 6 weeks or so.

Haven't you heard !!

After we tonked them in the Confederations Cup, he's appealed to FIFA to get special dispensation to play for the USA, even though he's represented Spain.

Something about his great grandmother's sister's son being born in Boise Idaho.
