If it's any like MLS, it may take him some time to adjust. But enjoy watching him while he's there--you may see some really nice play.

From what I get to watch of the MLS, the skill may be lacking but the pace and fitness is equal to the Premier League.

The A League down here couldn't be further from both. Anyone with a bit of pace and skill dominates. Del Pierro destroyed this league for 2 seasons as a pensioner. Villa will be laughing!

Interesting...would be great to hear from a Canadian on this. I reckon @canuckblue must be Canadian...not sure who else is...

The Canadian Soccer Association is a joke, especially on the men's side. The biggest problem with the way football is run here is there are a lot of regional fiefdoms that refuse to work together and as a result there's no efficient system of identifying and fast-tracking players good enough for the national team -- it seems the CSA will only look at the big cities, especially the Metro Toronto area. Even within my own province, Ontario, there's a staggering amount of non-co-operation even at the local level. It's frustrating as hell, especially seeing as we've gone backward since our only WC appearance in 1986, while at the same time the Americans have taken huge strides forward. We could learn a thing or two from them.

I'm really not sure what the problem is , probably the canadian FA there seems no real direction, and possibly as well not many canadians play in europe for some reason so don seem to get enough expeirience playing top class competiton.

At this point, with no apparent direction from the CSA, I feel that the future is going to ride on the academies in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and to a lesser extent Edmonton and Ottawa.

The USSF got its talent pipeline started through an academy of its own, and now only finally the MLS academies are starting to churn out players. If you look at all of the U-* USMNT rosters, they're all chocked full of MLS academy products and members.

Superb stuff by the North Americans.

3 out of 4 teams in the knockout stages is great anyway. But given the quality of the groups it's a hell of an achievement.

Well in lads.

Costa Rica...just amazing to me. Never would have thought they'd get out let alone win.
Mexico...Herrara has taken a side that was in shambles a few months ago into a real threat.
USA...survive. Arguably the worst of the three to get through.
