Tim Howard vs Brazil

Maverick

Player Valuation: £8m
USA lost 4-2

there was an own goal (great save by Howard right into his defenseman Onyewu who "bodied" it in), a late PK (4th goal in extra time), a free kick by Ronaldinho and then also a goal where Timmy hit his hand on the cross bar and was actually hurt

it was called a dislocated finger on his left hand but he played the rest of the game

to any ball he could get to, he looked good

USA hung tough all game and the ref looked like they had it out for them... oh well, hopefully Tim is ok

(USA goals by Fulham's Dempsey and Bocanegra)

Hope he is ok. It would be bad if he missed the Man U game (consipracy theorists will a have field day if he does ;) )

My first thought was, "Oh crap."

But after he stayed in and flexed his hand several times, it looks like he'll be ok.

As for the match. The US hung with Brazil the entire match although the scoreline doesn't indicate it.

Ref had a shocker as he turned down a blatant penalty for the US when Wolff was bowled over while getting ready to pounce on a rebound in the box.

Very encouraging by the USA and this was with arguably a full strength Brazil.

Won't be long until the USA are among the best teams in the world, its in there nature to be the best at sport and wherever you look there is an american either the best or competing with the best.

***Hold the Front cover!!!***

Is that Rob (formerly Rob_Japan) giving the USA a compliment?!?

the problem as i see it is that the best athletes end up in the NFL, because there they can earn huge amounts of money. Its not like its hard work either ( :P ) on for 10 minutes, off for 10, end of the first quarter, advert break, start again. it will take a while for football ('soccer' only in the US) to take root and be a viable and respected product. when that happens the pool of talent that can be drawn from will see the US as a permanent world top 10 international side.

I agree suits but we're are starting to see a shift, IMO, where more excellent athletes are playing soccerball. The African American community is starting to be represented and the Latino community here is the wave of the future. Historicly soccer players in this county had European, africa or Asian parents and while still the case we are seeing a much more diverse pool compete for those top spots in our Premier and ODP programs. I felt like our U-20 squad showed that and they were the best looking US squad I've seen at any level since I've been following their game (80's). It will still take time and I'm not predicting Soccer rising to prominence any time soon domesticly but we are a big enough country to still get excellent athletes despite it not being big money.

The good thing about the USA's position and history means that mangerially they will have a European history but player wise may have more Argentina and Brazil about them.

Tactically German and Italian, Skillfully Argentinian and Brazilian...

USA USA USA!!!

P.S. I love you tex, please take me off your ignore list! :D

true FACTODERMUNDO(y) (y)

as he plays for the USA, outside uefa and the EU, do the same rules apply with regards injuries on international duty and the costs of keeping a player that is injured on 'none club time'.

hope hes ok and capable, i recall the mad dog having a finger put back in place at goodison i think, it may have been against villa. i recall it got a mention in a few places. he flinched when it was popped back in (TG).
