For arguments sake, what would we have to differently than say what AC Milan did or a bunch of Turkish clubs in order to avoid actual European bans? Or does this ruling mean that any ban at all ever again is unlikely?

There is no problem with say USM being granted naming rights for the ground and paying £50 m a season for the priviledge.

The problem comes if the contract and therefore the accounts show a payment of £50 m when USM only actually pay £10 m.

That , as I understand it , is what City were falsely accused of.

If you look at our spending over the last 5 years, its not so different from 8 other clubs.

When people say "Everton waste £500 million" in an isolated statment, it sounds alot. BUt its not true, and its not even that much when you compare all the other teams spend.

I agree with your analysis here. All I would add though is that todays ruling has just added an awful lot of wriggle room with which to operate within the bends of.

City I suspect will spend a lot of money now, and essentially rub UEFA's nose in it.

I like a lot of us fear we won't be treated the same though. Every time the FA brings a new law in, we're the team that are used to be made an example of. Usmanov is powerful, but we haven't seen his power rub off yet, he should be paying those at the top of the ladder a few visits and show them we can be a bully too, we're so weak it hurts.

Thats what City did. CAS have just said that's ok.

The BBC, normally quite cautious in conclusions have just said this, from their chief sports reporter.

"The credibility off FFP lies in tatters. After all, how can FFP survive after one of the world's richest clubs, having been found guilty of obstructing a Uefa investigation, a club that was found to have breached the rules in 2014, walk away with just a 10m euros fine?"

I'm not sure the ruling today changes much mate. Strikes me as the political solution - everyone's a winner. City have been found guilty to be in breach, but the case was the severity of punishment. The penalty was found to be disproportionate not the principle. Uefa say they are happy with their FFP regulations and are fining City 10 million for their breach. While City are back in Europe. Everyone's a winner and i dont think much will change.

Thats perhaps fair. I mean we haven't seen the exact wording of the statement and I will have to have a look at that. However the BBC are reporting "FFP lies in tatters".

The reality is, the next time they try to punish someone, they will know that if they take it to CAS, the principle has been established, big fines and particularly bans are not reasonable.

Whats most damaging for UEFA, is City massively attempted to flount the rules here. They went over and above flounting the rules as they wanted to facilitate a court case. City now don't take as many liberties as City then. And we are much more cautious than City are now.

I don't think we are signing Neymar by any stretch but do think there's a lot more wriggle room for us to work in.

That is the ultimate dream.

Imagine pain free weekends, going to work on Monday not hating the world and Tom Davies.

Ban us UEFA, obliterate us pleeeeeeaaaaase

I am all for this idea.

Having my summer weekends ruined by this shower is the final straw for me
