Timekeeping

A other solution looking for a problem - why don't they just leave the game alone.

Edit; answers own question - longer games means more Ads to sell?

To be fair, this is a problem.

I would not necessarily say that the game would go the way of American Sports as Rugby is doing fine with a stop the clock process and an independent timekeeper, without being cynically subjected to ad breaks galore.

As with the increase in subs, there's only one group of teams this benefits. The Sky teams.

You're never going to see City/Liverpool time wasting when they're 1-0 up against Burnley/Luton, so the time added on will be 3-5mins.

However, imagine Luton are 1-0 up at Anfield and doing everything to run down the clock. Liverpool bring on 5 fresh players (half of the outfield team). Luton have their backs against the wall and instead of frustrating and clinging on, the game goes on for an extra 15mins. It's likely that they'll find a way to score at least an equaliser.

The squads that the Sky teams possess are in a different league to the majority of teams. They have a ridiculous amount of options and now they're being given another helping hand, to ensure those games where they were frustrated and dropped points won't happen again.

Remember when we were all outraged at 4 whole mins of Fergie Time

I really hope this is not the way it will go, I hope there is some adjusting as the season goes on.

Tranmere Vs Barrow. 2nd half had 2 goals, one a pen few subs but the physio was not on once and the ref let the game flow really well so not many free kicks. Time wasting was not even bad at all. Added time was 9 minutes, way way over the top.

I would say, if that half is going to be standard there could easily be 15/20 minutes in some games.

I agree that there should be something done but there has to be natural out of play time taken into account.
