One other thing, if you regularly go to a restaurant, and you never tip. Do you ever wonder what they are doing to your special dish?

Well then how would people get fed? What a stupid answer. Its the only industry that doesn't strike to get better wages. Everyone else moans and causes mayhem to get what they want.

I don't mind tipping by choice. It is when it is expected is grinds my gears. tipping is to say thanks for a good job. Service included prices negates the need to provide a good service.

Well of course. In this country its not compulsory, in others it is.

But I always give good service, and I get tips. But some people are sly, they put money down, and as they walk off, they pick it up. Or they mime looking in their pocket for change, and leave nothing. Its a little insulting.

I go to restaurants maybe once a year. If I want to get fed then I cook it myself or my mrs will cook it, she gets her tips in the bedroom.

I always tip. Always! If it be a meal os a round at the bar. Unless the sevice is crap.

worked in a restaurant - the owner payed (paid?) the staff out of the tips collected where he could.

its a legal thing, if you put a tip in the designated tip plate on the table, the owner has the right to take it. if you give a tip to the waiter/waitress directly, the restaurant owner has no LEGAL recourse to claim that cash.

of course, bully restaurant owners hold the power of P45 over employees, and therein lies why the law is an ass, and employees regularly snaffle what they can, as well as make the customers suffer.
