Tipster 2009-10 League

For the forthcoming season I will be running the usual weekly Tipster on GOT but with a small, subtle difference. Existing players have been invited to join a head-to-head League.

So far however I have only received a positive response from 5 members:

AustrianToffee. coyney. Gazdalf. Keamos. Tennessee Blue Mike


Under these circumstances, although other previous players are still welcome to add their name to this list and new players are welcome to apply to join, I would have to merge the above named into a league which I am forming (numbers not finalised yet) on another forum and make it a joint forum League. It really would need well in excess of a dozen regular, committed players to make it worthwhile to restrict it to GOT Forum members - and the other leagues are now close to the required numbers. If anyone already named has any reservations about this then please let me know (if they want to withdraw for example) but in any event you would be assured of the usual high standard of results and so on.


As before the Weekly Tipster will be available for people to play as regularly as they wish.

Well no! You get to play for free not vpoints...

You predict the 10 games (normally weekend in PL, occasionally midweek if a full programme, and also the early rounds of the FA Cup)

Points earned:
3 pts CORRECT SCORE
2 pts CORRECT MARGIN
1 pt CORRECT RESULT

Bonus Points:
6 Correct results 1pt
8 or more 1 further pt.
2 pts Correct First scorer (one nomination per round, own goals ignored if your selection were to score next goal after own goal(s))

League Rules (for League placings):
Head to Head (single or double Round Robin according to demand)
Winner of match 3 pts, Draw 1 pt, Loser 0 pts. - no Tiebreakers used

Tiebreaker rules apply to determine best score of week if scores are level.

We have now 6 (Fozzy has just added his name) from GOT and 16+/30+/35+ anticipated from other forums for the league formats. I will run 3 or 4 leagues according to demand - so if there is enough interest it can be run on here as a GOT only league.

If you just wanted to play on an ad-hoc basis - for example you can't guarantee you will remember etc. then you are free to join the Weekly competition only and predict when you want.

It's good fun to be honest. Except halfway through the season when TD starts taking the piss out of me for all the points I don't score.

Unless we get to 18 or 20 I may have to consider a merge with another forum (General Football fans) where there are 16 entries at the moment. It would be good to get close to the required number here!

I have, so far, received 10 requests to play in the League. I am now proposing to merge the GOT League with the Programme Forum League - where there are presently 16 entries. I will continue to hold both league entries open until the end of the month (or a little longer if demand picks up) in order to finalise numbers.

With around 30 places I will work out a solution that carries us over the full Tipster season of around 39 weeks (league format). Probably this will involve a straight head-to-head (with 30 players this is 29 weeks) and a split division for the final 10 weeks whereby the top 10 meet each other again (the same for the middle 10 and the bottom 10)

So, still looking for a few more - if however we get nearer 20 I will not need to merge the two leagues.
