Where have the FA pulled this directive from that they have decided to follow that they can only overturn a decision if there has been "A clear and obvious error in the referee's judgement". How is not giving a penalty when the defender has stamped on the attackers foot not a clear and obvious error?

Did they maybe rule it out as they considered he had lost control of the ball anyway?

Am I imagining that or does that factor into any decision like that?

What annoys me is that you've got a completely separate ref deciding whether or not that merits a rewatch. I feel the ref should have a chance to see the footage in situations as important and close as that, then if he still thinks that's not enough contact, fair enough. Right or wrong at least it's his informed decision.

As it stands though the inconsistency in the application of VAR is baffling, and provides far too much behind closed doors wiggle room for conspiracy theories to gestate. I have no doubt the powers that be would rather see Liverpool win the title than City, and so far City have had every decision go against them. It might be coincidence or just bad luck, but you certainly can't say it's fair and transparent -- which is the whole point of using VAR.

There needs to be some kind of access to the communications between ref and VAR so the fans know what is happening. We should know the answer to your question whether we agree or not.

VAR has been a success in every other major league that is using it, the deployment of it by the FA so far makes the UK's brexit strategy look good.

Its just being used to take the pressure off the ref even when he's make an error. He can point to His ear even though he's make the wrong call himself. Bizzare.

Are you sure of that ?

The way VAR has been implemented everywhere - the World Cup especially - is almost a guarantee that it will fail.

Cricket has the right idea - give the captain two referrals during the game, losing one when the decision the ref has made is correct. If the captain wastes their reviews and the ref then makes a howler, tough.

Pep needs to call this and get some heat on the VAR drones and their robotic officials.
