You had top class teams across europe and quality international sides, and wengers arrival raised the bar so the late 90's early 00's sides were absolute quality.

The standard across the board right now is really at a low

With only three points between us and 7th, I am starting to believe this. Also I think people should never confuse quality vs entertainment. Man City are quality, but they are SO. BLOODY. BORING to watch sometimes.

Hell, give me Norwich from last season over Man City from last season. Wouldn't mind having Farke in charge of our promotion campaign of 20/21 actually. He'll be binned before xmas, and since our own season will be un-saveable by late December, why not?

The teams now work harder tho. Back then you could take one or two touches then make the pass, you can't do that now.

Everton (thru Bill) try to save a small football club from extinction

That lot - oh hang on it was Chelsea.

Guess which club gets the rub of the green every week and which one gets the dodgy calls agaiinst them

Course I’m bi....

Isn't the early to mid 90’s regarded as one of the lowest quality periods in English football history?

Not the quality i'm talking about

Back then it was a sport where 22 guys went out and played a game of footy. Rarely did a ref need to get involved and the only talk after the game was of the actual game itself........ NOTHING else. These days, week in and week out its not about the two teams anymore, but everything else.

The turning point for me and has been steadily declining since, was when players started to get a yellow card for celebrating a goal, or celebrating with their own supporters who had paid good money to watch and players getting a yellow card for taking their shirt off.

Been downhill ever since with all kinds of bollocks.

Modern footy is a shambles

Good point, the last world cup was great entertainment I thought, but the actual quality would a big step down from say the sides at France 98

Agree with you 100% there. European and international sides were fantastic and legendary, hence why I only said English football in my original post. I was only born in 1992, but I’d never heard much good stuff about the premier league/English football concerning the early 90’s. I must admit I’m basing much of this off premier league years as well lol. Watching that show the pitches looked a right state and the general quality of play seemed a bit ropey. Post Wenger there’s no doubt the late 90’s and early 2000’s saw the premier league at a high point.
