Good win for City at a tough ground. They didn’t look great but neither have Liverpool to be honest, it’s just all about winning.

Considering they were missing a few it was a good first result, as any win away at Wolves is these days. However, the chances created and wasted by Wolves in the second half showed all their old defensive deficiencies are still just as prominent and are set to undermine them yet again.

It's always a case of we're so good going forward, and they can be quite brilliant at it, that we'll score more than our porous defence can leak at the other end, and that might be good enough against lesser teams but won't be against their real rivals domestically and in Europe..

While not totally disregarding their chances of the league, I fear it'll be beyond them without improving their defence, the league cup and fa cup are their best chances of silverware imo, although Pep's admitted he'll have to field sn academy side against Luton, so maybe just the FA Cup a possible for them this season.

Liverpool’s defence let 3 in the first game and somehow allowed Chelsea’s ten men to cause them problems. The difference is when City win ugly they get a whole week of questioning in the media about it, when Liverpool do it’s the sign of how good they are that even when they play badly they win.

City's defensive problems have been apparent for a lot longer, most of last season, their fatal error of not replacing Kompany found them out when Laporte suffered long term injury. A lack of planning and perhaps priorities in transfers, ignoring the elephant in the room of clear defensive vulnerability with no cover, clearly undermined them.

I fear with Koulabily now looking towards PSG the exact same mistakes are being made by Pep, why sign a defender we badly need when there's a forward we don't need at all, who we can sign. Tacking your weakest links is where you get the best results.

Liverpool were awful not so long ago, Karius throwing away goals and Lovren and Matip all over the place. Their weakest links were obvious just as City's are today. Even the defender's they do sign are better going forward than actual defending.

Laporte will return and City will almost certainly get a right sided Centreback. Hopefully that will plug those gaps but the promising bit was that City had changed formation and for 45 mins completely dominated Wolves away from home.

Yeah they are quite devastating when they blitz other teams, some of their play in the first half, the interchange of passes and quick movement was mesmerising. They still have time to strengthen, and with players missing and lack of match sharpness, there were huge mitigating factors, so it's ridiculous to come to any conclusions about one performance.

My main worry is they don't repeat past mistakes and give Liverpool another free ride to the top, defensive shortcomings have to be the priority.

Pep is just a poor man's roberto martinez...

Most of the stuff on here about city's defence is spot on. I think Rhodri has got to improve a lot or be replaced and Mendy is a liability at times as is his replacement Zinchenko. Unless Pep addresses these weaknesses I think the Rs will have an easy ride to the title again unfortunately cause I can't see any of the other so called contenders being a threat.

zzzzzz

Free win as well.

Seems unfair.

What is unfair about it?

We paid for their Covid-19 tests. Harry Kane sponsors their shirts. We have offered to cover all the costs of the game being cancelled.

There is literally no way to re-arrange the match. We play again on the 24th & 27th Sep with the 4th round of the Carabao Cup due on the 29-30th Sep. When should we squeeze it in?
