Been that way for a few years - came into effect due to the winter break the prem league has made, and due to how teams did in euro comps to help them later rounds the year before the 5th round became a midweek thing
 
Wait so when the ball hits the referee the ball goes back to the team that played it even if it was played directly into three players on the other team? That's a laughably bad way of doing it.
