I think we all know that answer.
The FA Cup was ruined as soon as the Champions League became the lucrative cash cow it grew into in the 1990s. The only way to reignite its significance would be to assign an automatic CL place to the winner. It will never happen because the Premier League will never allow that to happen - and the clubs would rebel. This is what happens when a country's football association is essentially canibalised by its top flight clubs and is no longer an honest arbiter of the national game as a whole.
