Delighted for the much-maligned Hertha. My nine-year-old was convinced they had it won with 20 to go. The same kid was in tears after their loss on Thursday. I fear tonight's jubilation has condemned him to a lifetime of football misery now that he is a "proper" Hertha fan. All his friends abandoned Hertha for Werder Bremen and Union. But he stuck with them after I refused his request for a Bayern shirt on Friday...

The old Everton/Hertha double wasn't looking so hot in this Berlin household last Thursday evening at one point... Christ. These relegation survivals take some beating.

I feel sorry for HSV - great club, but they were second best tonight in a big way, I thought.

I am pleased for the Hertha fans. 72,000 turned out for the home game with Mainz last week (my kid's first game - a loss) and another 76,000 for the first leg with HSV. They kept singing after both games (which I think is almost insane as I'd be readying the Molotov cocktails). If they got a sniff of success at all they would be huge.
