I'm just lost be the unintentional argument. Footballers make tackles with the intention of playing the ball, well 99 % of the time anyway.I think, emphasis on think that if Fabinho had won the ball from the Madrid player and it went to Benzema it would have been deemed a deliberate play and therefor a goal.
But it's the deflection of a bouncing ball that hits his knee and goes to Benzema that isn't deemed deliberate.
Obviously IFAB love ambiguity in the wording of the laws and this is no different, all depends on how you define deliberately played.
But knowing how they define it and how its been seen to be defined by refs in previous games suggest that it's the right decision in law.
