Does it matter? Having financial problems isn't good and the rules are meant to prevent recklessness which is largely a positive. But surely trying to screw everyone but a select few is far worse?
My argument was that I think the punishments would have been far more severe if the EFL were in charge, their constant investigations of Derby that resulted in this and spanned multiple years is recent proof of that.

I mean the EFL with the super league
The point isn't to worry about which entity is doing what as much to point out that the rich clubs get latitude to run greedy power plays whenever they feel at no real cost and small clubs are going to cease to exist because they ran out of money in a world altering pandemic. Talking about the EFL is missing the forest for the trees.

No chance too much zip in them.

Could finish anywhere from 12th downwards though.
Well if they have this zip they might want to think about showing it. Right now I see a team playing extremely aggressively and not being able to outshoot or out-chance their opponents. They're playing like Norwich but if they had a few good players instead of being all crap.

On the other story of the evening Leeds can absolutely go down
Fully agree, think the lessons learnt from Sheff Utd (who finished notably higher than Leeds in season one and were then relegated in season two) and Reading earlier this century gave rise to the term 'Second Season Syndrome' (SSS).

Leeds look like prime SSS candidates to me, starting with only 3 points from the first possible 15 and Bielsa's high energy style means his sides' have a tendency to fade towards the end of a season, which makes a good start all the more imperative.

If Bruce does go, who would the Newcastle fans want in to replace him?

Well firstly, Bruce won't go. I wouldn't be surprised if we were marooned in the relegation zone in March and Ashley still wouldn't pull the trigger. He'd probably gamble that we'd get out of it, or settle into the idea that we'd come straight back up and/or prepare to just downsize the whole operation. By all accounts they weren't even going to sack McClaren despite the near-certainty of relegation; they only did so because Rafael came knocking on the door.

But say, for the sake of argument, he was to get sacked - a replacement under Ashley doesn't really matter. The Rafael fiasco proved beyond all doubt that Ashley's NUFC is no place to be if you want to grow and progress; so you're looking at the pool of managers who would see the club as a step up for them. Ie, no-marks like Kinnear, Pardew and Bruce who were firmly in the doldrums, essentially forgotten about when we gave them the job. Even the likes of Keegan and Shearer wouldn't have been anywhere near getting a PL managerial gig if it weren't for this ridiculous board.

My pipe dream would be new ownership and an Italian manager. Would love to see an Italian coach here one day. Someone like Conte or Mancini or Gasperini or someone like that. Pie in the sky of course, but just for the sake of dreaming!

Anyway, off to see some FA Cup footbaal today. York City vs Hebburn Toon. Howay the Minstermen!
