How did Liverpool become as bad as they are? Surely can’t just be due to Mane leaving, though that clearly hit hard
They’ve been really quick to replace forwards (arguably not well, but still) and yet have let their already creaking midfield rot to the point that they’re all too easy to play through. Their defenders aren’t equipped for an onslaught so once the MF is breached, they’ll find it tough to keep clean sheets.

The transfers they’ve made in recent years have largely been good, but it’s the ones they haven’t that have done for them.

Their reliance on Salah and how it's constrained their other business is something they'll regret. He's lost a yard of pace and is now on a massive contract.

At thirty, and thirty-one in June, there won't be many takes who'll give the RS what they want (need) and match his contract, so they'll be stuck with him.

This means as you mention they've neglected their midfield, as in recent years they've put all the remaining money on Jota, Gakpo, Nunez and Diaz.

Their mentality is to out-score other teams, but they're not doing that now; their midfield is way too slow and their defenders are shown to be not that great.
