Coming off a bad season and a middling one and being 30 years old at the time, not an outrageously low fee for me. He couldn't have lasted in the Prem much longer but the slower Italian league suited him.

IMO big slower strikers seem to peak in the 28-31 range, they never needed pace and they've almost perfected their craft by then. Its the MIchael Owens of the world who are spare parts by 29. Granted Italy might have been better for him but he didn't put on many miles at city. Not to mention every time I watched city and he got to play he just always seemed to bring it, his only fault was he wasn't Agureo.

My hunch is the market wasn't really there. Germany is even faster than the Prem... no one in France has the money... maybe Spain but everyone with cash can do better... that just left Italy. Either that or go to like West Ham. Remember this was back when even Stoke was trying to play free flowing football.
