I'm not sure if this is the right thread for it, so I'll delete t and post where it's suitable. But I have wondered, with the 5 subs allowed this season, if managers will develop a game plan where there'll be an intentional sub in the first half?

To what benefit?
You could give more time for a plan b or c to work instead of waiting til 20-30mins left. When you typically bring on a sub after 60+mins, and it doesn't work in the following 15-20mins, you're under a bit more pressure in the final 10mins to make a decision, and sometimes it's left a bit too late.

I can see a scenario where you could start with the less talented/experienced players, mainly forwards, and get them to run and run flat out to speed up the fatigue of the opposition defending players. You can then bring on your better players/forwards after 30-40 mins without the pressure of having to do something immediately, and they can still work their way into the game while still being fresher.

I think general conservatism is why subs are mostly included after around 60mins. With 5 subs, it gives the possibility to force the game a bit more in the first half without making yourself vulnerable in the 2nd.

So you think manager's might risk going behind in the first 30-40 minutes just to give better players the end of the game?
