It's not always the best players of the season who win the Ballon d'Or. Putting Rodri aside, Owen 2001 and Messi 2023 were the most dubious for me.
Rodri was outstanding last season, and I am glad it's gone to a player whose influence is measured beyond goals, assists and some fancy tricks.
They talk about Vini being their (Madrid's) top scorer, but he was only the eighth in La Liga, and he was just in the top 20th for assists. Influential yes, but prolific no.

It’s pretty much this. I don’t think crap is the right word. I think it is more unbalanced. You have these players who can shine because their entire team is so dominant. Rodri can’t change a game on his own. A cog in a machine, and a very good one, but the parts of the machine matter so so much and they’re so superior to 99% of what anyone else has.
So with Rodri out those machines roll on. Spain winning the final once he left the pitch, City still winning matches and leading the league now.

Personally think the two best players in the world right now are Mbappe and Haaland and I’m a little confused how so much overthinking is going into it where we end up with the vote we did.

Well I guess we have to decide if it is an individual award or not. I would say yes, they played better, but is it the award for a good player on the best teams or the best player?
I mean these two things tend to go hand-in-hand. The best players tend to play for the best teams.
Rodri is City's best and most important player. And guided Spain to a Euro's win as well as getting player of the tournament.
I know you don't rate him but that's just you being you.

Rodri is very much not City’s best player. He’s the most important because Pep signed Kalvin Phillips to be his backup (and now he just doesn’t have one I guess?) so his loss leaves a tough hole in the team. This also happened with Fernandinho for awhile and people acted like he was some spectacular player when I’d describe him the exact same as Rodri. Personally that isn’t a point in his favor for me.
Anyway if it’s about team success then sure give it to Rodri. I just thought they already gave out trophies for the team that wins the competition.
