Why do you need to win a WC? He has already won 3 Champs Lgues, and very likely to win his fourth this year. At 27. How many Champs Lgues did Them two win?

Not even mentioning all theindividual awards and records he has.

In Maradonna's case he really was the difference in Argentina winning. With Pele, I think the rest of the Brazil team was not reliant on that one man.
Argentina needed Messi to be Maradonna-like to get the Argies over the line v Germany...but he wasn't (unfortunately).
Having said all that, I would still have Messi over Naisy on more occasions than not.

this geroge weah was well tosh because he never even qualified for a world cup.

gareth bale is one of the worst players in the world because he's from wales. top players can play for the best teams, but it's not their fault if they can't win the WC.

mind you, was today the first time messi scored in the knockouts in CL? and he's never really "done it" in a WC yet.

Not to mention that defenders are hardly allowed to defend, offsides rule is more relaxed, etc. The people who run the game game want more goals and that's what we are getting but at the cost of defence.

He is already one of the best players ever. If he won a WC he'd probably be in the mix for greatest of all time.

If Argentina had won that game in Rio I don't think it would be much of a conversation. He would be generally thought of as the greatest ever but as it is he's only close because of the lack of international succuss
