Where or when did some Brain's Trust come up with the idea that rolling a ball casually across your own box when the other team had men lurking in the vicinity was a great tactic?
Our games masters at school would have dropped us from the Under 12 team for doing that

Well, no tactic looks good when its executed badly!
It has a purpose, and I think the majority of successful teams for many a year now will play out from the back and move the ball across the defence rather than hit it long for a much lower % chance of keeping possession.
