Great game and good to see van dijk and company lose it so late on.

Northern Ireland won again to go top of that group for now and while unlikely to stay there it perhaps confirms that Scotland are in a league of their own as far as the four home nations are concerned, and that a very low league.

You shouldn't exclude countries at the end of the day. Sport should be about inclusion. San Marino are crap, but it's because they're a small country with not much of a talent pool to draw from

If you want fewer matches like this then don’t throw every single country into the same qualifying round. In North America, where there are almost as many countries, the strongest sides (Mexico, USA, Costa Rica) don’t even come in until there are 12 teams left.

Van Dijk shown up there. The games a bit harder when you don’t just have to boot it to the wings every time you get it. I’m sure the Dutch media will be glossing over all his errors and just churning out content calling him a rolls Royce. Or maybe not.

Have to sit there and appreciate the job NI have done there.

Okay, Estonia and Belarus aren't a big powerhouse, but then neither are Gibraltar or Kazakhstan, still have to beat them. Realistically, they won't qualify, but what a story it'd be. Norn Iron knock out Ronald and Van Dijk

Agreed. Instead of playing in the nations league these countries like San Marino, Gibraltar and Scotland should be playing in a tournament to qualify for the qualifiers.

And none of those teams ever improve above that level, whereas in Europe the worser nations are continually improving precisely because they're allowed to mix it with the better teams

It’s actually a rotating cast of characters beyond the first 6-7 countries in CONCACAF, and based on how they play in World Cup qualifying I can assure you none of them are ever going to be good enough. San Marino could probably beat some of these tiny island countries like Curacao and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The teams that would theoretically get better are the ones who actually have population like Canada, Cuba, and El Salvador... but they don’t either.
