Hang on a minute, is that the first time Mourinho has ever lost at Stamford Bridge ?
Michael Ballack is a damn handsome man
Should've had at least a point but this is big school so nothing can be taken for granted despite being the superior side for most of the match.
Gutted for Izaguirre getting an OG marked against him, he was as good as I've seen him play for months.
Onwards and upwards yo.
Enjoying reading the comments on the Guardian websiteAlthough I thought they could win tonight, no point in wishing it was true that Celtic 'were all over' Milan, although they were the better team on the night. As the previous post states, Celtic were limited in the final third, despite Stokes becoming the player he'd previously shown he could be. Milan will be more threatening when they get other players back, no mistake.
Every time Celtic play well, the other team is ****e - just like Barca last year - change the record FFS! Also, we did actually lose tonight, so it's hardly an excuse...grrr!
I like Allegri. And the majority of it isnt his fault.
But why play Cristante? Why not even try introducing him? Robinho? Seriously?
Cristante made his champions league debut 2 years ago and since then his growth has been stunted. I'm just using Cristante as an example. There are other. While we hang onto absolute crap.
Worse Milan side ever. in the whole history of the club.
Celtic did not deserve to lose. Sole consolation is I guess it is beyond doubt that second place is an even race.
Muntari please kindly **** off
Allegri why oh why didnt you give a start to Cristante? He is 18 so he has no experience. But unlike a lot of midfielders on the pitch tonight the crucial thing is he isn't ****E!!!!!!
Yeah, Milan aren't what they used to be, but let's not forget they were missing five national team players in Abate, De Sciglio, Montolivo, El Shaarawy and Pazzini -- Poli only played last three minutes as he is recovering from a knock. The returning champion Kaka was also injured.
Absolutely gutted after tonight. For large spells of the game, we were in control and were the better team. I thought our two centre halfs were magnificent, while both Izaguirre and Brown - despite Milan's 2 goals - were superb. Mulgrew was quitely effective, while Commons passed it well at times despite being too slow throughout. Forster has been lambasted recently but he was colossal tonight, and terribly unlucky at the 2nd goal. The only two players I thought were underpar were Lustig and Samaras, but not bad by any means.
Overall, I don't think our downfall can solely be attributed to bad luck. We had several opportunities to test their defence with our set pieces, which were used to great effect last season, yet we consistently failed - bar Stokes' free kick off the bar. And in the moments when we were in sight of goal: Samaras blasted wide, Brown failed to get the shot away and Mulgrew (a defender/defensive midfielder) was the only player in the box to try and convert an over-head kick. While Stokes worked his socks off, he was definitely out of his depth at this level, as the most advanced forward in a system which doesn't suit him.
But I can't complain too much. Afterall we've lost to AC Milan in the San Siro and we're actually gutted, on the same night plastic supporters of Chelsea have witnessed their team lose 2-1 at home to Basel? That's a clear sign of how far we've progressed under the rising star of football management in Neil Lennon. If Commons was faster, he wouldn't be at Celtic. If Samaras unlocked his full potential, he wouldn't be at Celtic. If Brown could shoot, he wouldn't be at Celtic. The point is that we have a group of players with several individual qualities but striking weaknesses all the same, which hinders us at this elite level despite our incredible collective work rate. To put it into context, 3 weeks ago we were one misjudged Matthews clearance on the line away from failing to qualify for the Champions League at the behest of a Kazakh club. While our entire starting 11 tonight cost a combined £11million - the same fee AC Milan paid for Alessandro Matri alone. We have 5 games remaining in this group, if we learn from our mistakes and take our opportunities when they arise, then European football after christmas is well within our grasp. Onwards and upwards.
Thinking Valencia - Swans could be an interesting game, anyone who's going to watch it? I'm going to.
