He was dropped before his injury for "footballing reasons". Read into that what you will.

They're denying it's for financial reasons but it clearly is - either there's a clause, or they're in so much trouble that they can't afford him to risk injury by playing and he'll be gone for around £10-12m as soon as the transfer window opens.

They're in dire trouble. Too many stupid signings when Lerner came in by stupid managers, the chairman gave up on the dream, pulled the rug from under them by recouping as much money as he could and they're basically on their last legs.
