I get the sending off in terms of rules being he impeded him and he was the last man. But having played the advantage, surely he can punish the player but not give the foul (which was outside the box).

Did he play an advantage

As in was he aware that a foul had taken place until the linesman signals him after a few seconds

They would have been better keeping their old manager who brought them up, Its was a massive gamble getting Solskjaer to keep them up when he had no experience in this league or any English leagues. Silly.

That is the key really. He may well be a good manager but a relegation scrap is a completely unique circumstance and needs people with experience in that position, as has been proven with Pulis and Allardyce.

That's what I'm thinking. He's opened up a can of worms there.

Surely Wickham messing up going around the keeper stopped the goal chance, not being pulled back
Aye.

There was no guarantee that Wickham would score anyway, and a penalty is a much easier opportunity than running at goal and beating an onrushing goalkeeper. So it's not the same thing, he gave him about five or six seconds advantage... where do you draw the line?

I thought he win a couple of titles?

I think his days of turning down Premier League clubs have come and gone. Back to Norway for Ole I reckon.

Well it was him and that Porto bloke everyone had a hard on for. Both novices in foreign leagues... Bad gamble IMO.

This. Good post mate.

Agree with the sending off, but the incident was not in the penalty area or was it

The rules state that if a player is pulled back outside the area but the offence carries on into the area then a penalty is the correct decision.

Dowd was correct in the pen and red card. The defender comittied the red card offence, Dowd played on to see if Wickham could go onto score, he didn't and you have to take into the consideration he was pulled back which had an influence on that. Dowd then took it back for the pen and red card.

If Wickham had scored after the advantage i do believe the defender would not have been shown a red.

Which still means he shouldn't have given a penalty for me.

It's like someone getting fouled on the halfway line, but they play on an attack and get a corner/goal/shot off. The ref goes back to book the player, not bring the ball back to the halfway line for a free kick.

The ref played the advantage which was Wickham shot. The ball was then cleared and they Should have played on.

Basically Sunderland got a triple advantage, Wickham Shot, pen and red card

Offer for new customers at Coral. Back Liverpool at 4.50.

I might be wrong but usually when the bookies enhance odds like that it's because they're quite confident it won't happen. I've seen a couple of other bookies enhancing odds on Liverpool this week too - hopefully they know something.

I never take enhanced doubles, trebles etc from the bookies because they often lose despite looking great on paper.
