Cleverley will be 26 at the start of next season mate, not exactly what i'd describe as a young un' like

Wigan was also 5-6 years ago, it's like us looking at Rodwell 6 years ago or say Jeffers six years after his Arsenal move etc and thinking we'd get the same player back, Cleverley potential for whatever reason has been ruined and and will never live up to the early promise he showed as a 21yo, thinking otherwise is just dreaming

It's difficult for any young player at United. He was in and out of the side and, for whatever reason, the fans turned on him. He's still got his prime ahead of him and he could still turn out to be a very decent footballer.

He was at Wigan for the 2010-11 season and he scored 4 goals in 19 starts. I don't see any downside to picking him up when his contract ends. If he can fulfill his potential, great. If not, he'd be a useful squad player.

Cleverley joined Villa on a loan deal the Premier League sanctioned after the deadline. Everton were not given the option, and Martínez believes his team’s rise above United last season influenced the thinking at Old Trafford.
...
He added there were “different reasons” why the Cleverley deal did not materialise but remains a firm admirer of a player he had on loan at Wigan Athletic. The England international can sign for Villa permanently in January or explore his options as a free agent when his United contract expires next summer. Martínez refused to be drawn on whether he would make a renewed attempt to sign Cleverley.

He said: “It’s impossible for me to say what will happen in 10 months. I can’t say we are going to be after him. We’ve got two or three young players at Everton who might come through and take their opportunity – Liam Walsh, Ryan Ledson, Kieran Dowell – and they would fit into the squad. “I will always be interested in Tom in terms of the experiences I had with him. I think Tom is going to be one of the best midfielders in the England camp but 10 months in football is an eternity. Anything could happen in that time.”
