How I hope the report in this morning Guardian about El Bob seriously pursuing Tom Cleverley is misplaced and unsuccessful.

Nailing our colours to the mast against this story, the collective thoughts of my brother and I are this...

He's NOT a Tackler.
He is NOT a destructive (Fabregas-style) passer.
He does NOT get goals.
We do NOT need defensive midfielders.

What is his best position?
Answer - playing for Aston Villa !!

He is one of a generation of UK footballers spawned by Xavi, Iniesta... but coached (inanely) by UK coaches to run around, play pointless short sideways passes, and get sweaty.

He'll add little or nothing to our squad.

And we hope and pray that Manure agreeing to this deal as they sure as sh1t will do, will not be their bargaining chip towards any move in the opposite direction for any one or all of Barkley, Coleman and Stones... cos we all know that we'll come out of any such contra type deal with them smelling of roses and us smelling like the Analfield pi55stones.

The thought of Cleverley being used as a pawn to snatch any of the above three away from us is too painful to comprehend.

Please El Bob, surely you can identify players who offer more, much more, light years more than Tom (not so) Cleverley will ever do.

Much as I hope there is no mileage in this story and possible signing... if he is signed, I'll wish him to show/prove me and ar kid totally wrong.
If he is signed I hope he makes all those like me/us currently unimpressed with him eat our words and rush to buy new shirts with his name on the back as the new Blue hope.
El Bob must see something in him from his time on loan at the Pie Eaters that many of us cannot see, so again, if he's signed I'll wish him well, butr I cannot deny I'd rather us try to identify someone who looks infinitely better now... and as the thread about Ryan Ledson suggests, why not give him the opportunity to blossom rather than buying in at over-inflated costs?

Just seems to me Bobby is reflecting on memories of him at Wigan when he still had a shred of confidence and potential, and thinks he still has it.

He doesn't though... It'd just be a weird signing all round. If anything, Cleverley needs to drop down a division and prove himself there, as he's offered nothing at Premier League level for years.

Just can't see what Martinez likes about him, he is the very definition of average, probably below average. If he had come through anyone elses youth set up instead of Man Utds we more than likely wouldn't have heard of him. It's a NO from me.
