Do you not just think he is exactly the same as Osman (who is pretty vital, as recent results suggest)... Long term replacement. Good business. Give the lad a chance.
Bobby knows what he wants... We may not all be on the same wavelength but he has my trust. I can see how the team is moulding into something great! (Ignore the table and focus on the positives)

He's nowhere near as good as Osman even at this stage of his career.

Tubey, you little scamp - one would have been enough, to highlight three is just greed on your part :)

Nothing wrong with cleverly in my eyes. He is a replacement for Osman in the squad, utility midfielder who can cover roles. for a free that is well worth signing.

He may not be the best but then again he was first team in a title winning team a few years ago, so he may have a touch of fletcher about him.

remember cleverly wouldnt be our marquee sighing, simply a player brought into the aquad, ala McGeady was.

What about Ryan Ledson and Kiren Dowell?

You know, lads who have come through our own system and have been waiting for a go in the team?

How about we give THOSE lads a chance, rather than bringing someone else in who has shown NOTHING to suggest he deserves a chance with a club of our standing?

I just highlighted the players who Bobby has had a long term interest in (Alcaraz and Kone from managing them regularly, and McGeady for years on end) who were bought relatively cheaply and, unfortunately, have turned out to be super-gash.

Cleverley is in the same mould. I have pretty much no confidence in his "bargain buys" at the moment.

Tony Barrett's done a piece about it in The Times today too.

Roberto Martínez is hoping to convince Tom Cleverley to join Everton this summer and believes that the club’s ability to attract players has been enhanced this season despite a difficult domestic campaign.

Cleverley, who will be available on a free transfer when his contract with Manchester United expires in June, is attracting interest from a number of clubs but Martínez is confident that Everton can fend off the competition.

Key to his bullishness is a belief that transfer targets will have been impressed by the way that Everton play — despite their 12 Barclays Premier League defeats this season — and by the swagger they showed during their Europa League campaign.

“Within football, losing or winning doesn’t affect players, it’s how you lose, and I think every player who’s faced Everton this season will have come out with a real respect and appreciation of the way we play,” the Everton manager said.

“We don’t rely on ten months of results, we’ve got a bigger picture of what we’re trying to achieve and what we’ve got in the squad, particularly in terms of the younger players who have been given incredible roles.

“I think the perception of Everton has improved in the last 12 months. What we achieved in Europe has allowed that to happen. I see reports in Spain, France and other countries and the perception of us has improved.”

Martínez’s priorities for the summer transfer window are a left-sided centre back, a No 10 and a midfielder, with Cleverley earmarked for the latter role. The 25-year-old is on a season-long loan at Aston Villa but is understood to be hopeful of being reunited with Martínez, with whom he worked at Wigan Athletic four years ago.

Although Martínez denied that Everton have an agreement in place with Cleverley, his pursuit of the midfielder remains constant. “Tom is a player I know really well,” he said. “We know the positions that we need to strengthen in the summer.

“A lot of decisions will depend on how we perform in the last seven games. It’s going to be a very important end of season for us.”

.....................................................
Personally Im alarmed that RM still seems taken with Cleverley when he's has been shown the door by United and now it seems Sherwood at Villa....with media reports referring to him variously as nowhere near as good as his early reputation under Ferguson suggested. Ive only seen him play a few times admittedly, but he seems a journeyman to me though Im sure he fancies himself as a Carrick type midfielder. Id rather we went for someone younger with more potential to be honest.
