2018/19 Tom Davies

Can’t see that at all, think he’s one of the few it’s easy to keep around. Look at our centre mids at present - Gana probably off in the summer, might not sign Gomes on a perm, Schneiderlin is a bell and needs punting, McCarthy can’t stay fit to save his life and will leave, Besic clearly not an Everton player long-term...doesn’t leave us with much. Tom won’t be going anywhere.
I agree with the point you make but Davies isn't the player to replace them, only 2 of those 5 names play and there miles better then Davies.
He could replace Besic, at Boro, but that's about it

He's sound. Played really well when he came back into the team a few weeks back.

Looking forward to seeing him back in action.

Absolute roflcopter at McCarthy suggestions

The fact we´ve been so poor and Silva still hasn´t chosen to use him much says a lot. I´d imagine he´ll stick around for a couple more years though, by virtue of him being a local lad.

Well tbf it was at first an over reliance on Gomes when he came into the team, Davies was one of our better players in the January slump... but from Feb onwards when we picked up we kept, understandably, a largely unchanged team with Gueye and Gomes in the middle.

I’ll be gutted if he goes for Schneiderlin over him for United.

McCarthy was a sub against Arsenal and if put into the team now and if he performed well it might increase his value in the event of a sale during the summer.

Wouldn’t fancy a midfield pairing of Gueye and McCarthy... a lot of graft and energy but so little craft.

One of the most weird footballers ever I can't quite work out what kind of player he wants to be
I'd send him out on loan next season.
It is odd. He's got great work rate, seems to create a bit closer to goal, but he's not really an attacking mid. Tackles, tough, gritty, but positionally clueless and not a defensive mid. Can carry it a bit, more of a box to box type, but not sure he's good enough to be the cornerstone of a good PL side. Could see him being a bench type in all of those positions, but just not sure he has the proper quality. To me, he's not a great decision maker with the ball. That's either because the league is still a bit fast for him, or it's more innate and hard to change / develop.

Maybe he needs a loan and more game time. Not sure.

For me he has to play the next 3 games to see if hes able to step up a gear before pre season and assess him.

Otherwise we would have to drop sigurdsson back and bring in lookman.

Yep pretty much summed my thoughts up, He's not bad at any of the midfielder rolls but he doesn't really excel at any of them either.

Hopefully he will get a chance in the next 3 games. He is a more natural replacement for Gomes than either Schneiderlin or McCarthy(both more defensively minded).
He has the ability and now needs to show he has the mental strength to operate as a forward thinking midfielder. If he doesn’t grab this opportunity then I think he may see his first team options limited in the future.

Players get better with age and we must remember how young Tom Davies is.
Gueye arrived at Everton as a 27 year old costing 7m and is now worth in the region of 30m. Tom Davies will continue to improve and will in time settle into a role that best suits his skills.
As with a lot of young players he can do everything reasonably well but maybe not enough very well...yet.
