Loan him out in the Championship. I'd rather that than the Bundesliga or somewhere else - a long season in a physical league. Let him get knocked around a little. Did a world of good for Holgate, who I never thought would play this well.

A middling-to-poor club, where he'd play every game. Stoke, Wednesday, Middlesboro, something like that.

It would be good to get him out of Liverpool too. Get him away from old friends and haunts, get away from the pressure of being a local product.

Unfortunately I think that's true about Davies - he might be too comfortable here, and given responsibility and a proper role in a team he might improve a lot more. I really thought this is the whole point of Brands - to think about where a young player should play, how we get him there, what kind of coaching, what kind of position he should play, which team he could go to...?
