The net effect of screening the back four properly is that it seems as if the defender appears by magic wherever the ball is and delivers a crushing, but legal ball-winning tackle. Then he passes it off and moves to a position where he can redistribute the ball if needed.

The issue with playing Allan further forward is that you'd prefer more creativity up there. Unfortunately, it seems like this is going to be a squad that defends all day in the middle of the park and gets its creativity from the flanks. If we can get a proper RB in, I think we can get away with essentially playing three defensive mids.

Davies doesn't have the nastiness of the best 6's and never will. If he can improve his first touch and distribution, that's enough for the position. All we strictly speaking need is someone that can be the heartbeat so the ball doesn't have to reset all the time at the CBs or, God help us, the goalkeeper in possession.
Didn't realise Pirlo was a nasty player.

I'm not going to get carried away as 3 months ago ill admit i thought he was bound for Preston by the seasons end, but i think he could well be the greatest midfielder in the world.
I think the challenge for him now is maintaining the level of motivation he's shown recently.

The midfielders aren't really up to much, but they can be effective when they're working as hard as Davies and Doucoure have been.

Easier said than done, though.

Interesting reading the comments underneath some of the links on twitter.
Majority of Everton fans saying he's not good enough....
But you get the odd Everton fan saying he will be great for you. He's class and we should be keeping him etc etc.
Those latter fans are the same as the arsenal fans who went on about iwobi. They should be avoided like the plague.
?

Excellent last night.

Proving me wrong here. He certainly will if he keeps this up.

I thought he wasn't good enough. Plenty of reasons to doubt that now.

What I can say is I don't think there's a more likeable player in world football now that Baines has retired.
