twice now it's been put out, reminds me of that simply red song........ the ne e e ew flame has gone!!
now this is entertainment.

Lets face it, this light is supposed to represent an Olympic ideal but why go to all this bloody expense transporting it round the world, it is a nonsense, it should just go straight to the country of the games, end of. In this day and age too many activists have the opportunity to make their point that may have nothing at all to do with sport

right what your saying monty, but i do like it when people are willing to get arrested to get their point across, to me we don't have enough people who are willing to stand up for their beliefs. when i was in n.z. there was an america/china summit in christchurch the 1st for over 30 years, the place was overrun for about a month before with cia and chinese security, bans on parking on the street etc were enforced and basically it didn't matter how inconvenienced you were by it all, i stopped to get a paper (about 2 weeks before clinton was due to arrive) and an american voice told me to remove my vehicle from the sidewalk, knowing that they had no legal powers in n.z. i instantly asked the guy if he had any rights to work/ powers of arrest in new zealand and when he blankly replied "what" i pointed out that it was called a pavement and he could go and shove his government issue shades up his farter, he wasn't very happy but tough shoit, it was monday morning and i was getting my british soccer weekly. ironically the patrons of democracy were the ones pulling the strings and keeping the free tibet crowds away from the hotel where the chinese were staying.

I take your point mate and agree with you. The point I'm making is the cost incurred taking the bloody thing round the world. The flights, receptions, policing, man power and overall organisation makes that particular exercise an astonishing waste of money IMO. Half the countries taking part will have people living way below poverty levels but the Olympic movement and its member countries waste funds like this. These are the same people who take bribes from vested interests, it is corrupt as it has little to do with sport. That money would be better invested in stadia and facilities in those under privileged areas than on this jaunt.

Next stop for the torch San Francisco, the most liberal city in America, whose bright idea was this?????
