Torres

Dream scenario: Just as their repayment is due on 24th July, Hicks and Gillett sell Torres to United and release a statment saying that he was always injury prone anyway and that it represents a great return on what they paid for him. And then announce the next day that they've brought back Robbie Fowler as replacement.

Cue great turmoil amongst the red hordes, gnashing of teeth, bullets in the post to H&G, and a Uefa lodged objection against...err...all the world, as it's clearly against them.

Cant see it but it would be fantastic

He is absolute quality

Even if he did a Gary Birtles for us it would still be worth it

Pay £40M for their golden boy and put him in the stiffs. They'd be outraged and insulted all at the same time. (y)

All joking aside on the Torres front, I can see this being a summer of discontent at Anfield. I can sense meltdown in the air. :P

what would be even better, is if Rafael didn't want to sell, but torres filed for a transfer. he's way too good to accept another trophy-less season, he did enough of that at atletico

surely he realizes that he doesn't have the support around him to win major honors at liverpool, they're just not good enough. i'd give it one more season of disappointment before he's on his way out.

If Torres was sold they'd love it on the sly. Imagine how many woe-is-me songs and banners they'd get out of it. Nando the living Martyr. There'd be a collective pulling off over it. They'd reinvent a rebel song, probably Kevin Barry, to mark the moment 'doze yanks toooookkkkk our Nando awayyyyyyyyyyyyyy':

"In Walton gaol one Monday morning. High upon the gallows tree Nando Torres gave his young life
For the cause of liberty...."

Rafael would adore it. It would be yet another excuse that the highest-spending (net) PL manager could use to explain his failure to win a title (I do believe that the £80m United receive for Ronanldo will push Rafael about £70m over SAF in the net spend stakes).
