Fantastic that Yorkshire have got this.

Bikes? You were lucky to have a bike i used to ride t'shovel up hill, aye but we were 'appy

As with most things it depends. Did it on Friday as the first climb of the day and it was not bad at all. Did it again yesterday towards the arse end of 170km and it was a good deal harder.

Depends what you want from your days riding really. There are lots of climbs in the Bourg D'Oisans area, with a famous Tour ascent down every turn. One they haven't ever done though is the climb to Villard de Notre Dame. It's only a small road carved into the mountain and goes through several tunnels. Very picturesque.

A similar climb can be found if you turn right at Dutch corner (by the church) on D'huez. It takes you around the side of the mountain. Steeper than the Alps itself, with bits of around 14%. It brings you out towards the bottom of Les Duex Alpes so you could always do that one if you had the legs, or turn right and take the nice descent back towards Bourg D'Oisans.

Just seen this. I know those roads pretty well, used to ski/boad there every year! One of those roads up to Alpe D'Huez is nuts, barely enough space for a car at some points! Really nice drive, wouldnt fancy it on the bike tho :o

Has anyone heard Geoffrey Boycott's reaction to the news about Yorkshire having the Tour De start in 2013?

It's great.

Suppose a finish on the Mall was inevitable. Interesting that Prudhomme says the Yorkshire stages will offer something for the sprinters. Pan flat courses aren't something you'd normally associate with Yorkshire so hopefully they'll be taking in some of the local bumps. Would seem a shame to waste the great routes on offer in that part of the country.
