Townsend as Defensive Central Midfielder

Given we are still short in this area and new signings mean there probably won't be a place elsewhere in the team for him, is it worth trying to convert this fella to the DCM we need at the moment ?

He seems to have the attributes in that he works hard, gets all over the pitch and knows how to put a tackle in and it would be also nice to have him loitering on the edge of the opposition box where he can bang in those long range specials he is good at too.

It bolis down to: we'll probably try at least one of Townsend or Godfrey there sooner or later. Whether either is a good idea is open to debate, but we'll have to try something if/when Allan picks up another niggle. Two in central midfield is not working.

Looking at the squad. It will probs be vdb and Allen/Doucoure shoring up midfield with Gordon acting as the playmaker.
Then a front 3 of Ali, DCL, Richarlison.
Grey will fit in around the others, either as sub or play when others are injured/suspended.

Thats how I see the rest of the season going.

Didn't say he wasn't one of top performers and when Richarlison goes in the summer, he may get more game time.

But, who does he play instead of. Richarlison? Nope, Gordon? Maybe. But then Gordon in my view should be starting. Dele? No point brining him in if that is the case.
I feel for the rest of the season he will be the imapct sub or cover for injuir/suspensions.
