Given we are still short in this area and new signings mean there probably won't be a place elsewhere in the team for him, is it worth trying to convert this fella to the DCM we need at the moment ?

He seems to have the attributes in that he works hard, gets all over the pitch and knows how to put a tackle in and it would be also nice to have him loitering on the edge of the opposition box where he can bang in those long range specials he is good at too.

In view of the overwhelming negative response, I'd say yes. Not that I'd expect Townsend to be a first choice there, but considering that there are at least 3 players from anyone's 'first team' out injured every game, we need to be testing out the versatility of some of the squad, especially those who'd normally struggle to be picked in their normal position.

It might be more prudent to use him as a right or even left wing back / full back. Ashley Young dropped back later in his career.

Maybe even in goal if needed.

Looking at the squad. It will probs be vdb and Allen/Doucoure shoring up midfield with Gordon acting as the playmaker.
Then a front 3 of Ali, DCL, Richarlison.
Grey will fit in around the others, either as sub or play when others are injured/suspended.

Thats how I see the rest of the season going.

No way Gray gets dropped, been our most threatening player all year.

Didn't say he wasn't one of top performers and when Richarlison goes in the summer, he may get more game time.

But, who does he play instead of. Richarlison? Nope, Gordon? Maybe. But then Gordon in my view should be starting. Dele? No point brining him in if that is the case.
I feel for the rest of the season he will be the imapct sub or cover for injuir/suspensions.

I'd play Richie up top and allow DCL to be integrated back in. For me he hasn't looked fit and possibly disinterested.

He played well in a midfield 3 in the second half at Wolves. He wasn’t playing in the 6, but playing him more central isn’t a terrible idea.
