….I‘ve just remembered Tranmere wanting me to sign for them & taking me to meet a Manager called Dave Russell in his office one day. It must have been in the early 70s, he said to me ‘I know a lot of clubs want you & think you’re better than us’ which was good of him. I think I have some letters upstairs relating to it.

What a nice bloke, needless to say I didn’t sign for them.

I take offence to that, my cousin used to teach at the school nearby.

Although now I think back, I remember him saying when the school had mufti day and the teachers were allowed it too, he wore his Tranmere Rovers shirt.

He said all day the kids kept saying to him “nice shirt sir, who is it?”…

Only to reply, “it’s Tranmere Rovers. the stadium is just there” and point at the monstrosity through the classroom window. Only to be met by confused faces.
