Transfer Fee Effect

A large fee can defo be an albatross around a player's neck, see Lukaku when he struggled to hit the levels he reached in his loan season after he signed for 28 mil. It's defo been a thing with Sigurdsson and now is with Iwobi.

Lukaku struggled?

Don't think it's an issue with expectation with regards to Sig and Iwobi as they've never been good players to begin with. Iwobi is terrible all round and Sig was a one trick pony in a poor side when he was at his "best".

It’s how they perform that makes me fume, when you see players pull out of fifty fifty tackles it’s not the fee but the complete lack of bottle that makes me lose it. They are not proper footballers if they have no heart to do their best for ninety minutes each game.

Of course expectations are usually higher when you have paid out a headline amount and there is always the what if, when you see a team like Leicester buy in a player that we could have had for 5 million less and they have done better than our player.

When you sign a freebie but make it up in wages is just as bad though as we aren't going to shift some of these on unless they have a deep sense of wanting to play over cash which seems rare nowadays.

Either way we pay too high in wages for unreliable players so whether we pay a transfer fee or not the net end result is Everton get stung for millions and we all get depressed.

Does a transfer fee change your thoughts on an individual?

Take for example Iwobi and Bernard. We all now realise they are both ineffective and crap. One cost 30 mill and one came in on a free. Does the cost make you dislike/fume more with the individual? And should it even though the fee paid is down to the incompetence of the board?
The price doesn't make a difference to me. It's whether they show their worth.

And I also don't think either Iwobi or Bernard are both ineffective or crap for what it's worth.
