transfer requests

I believe, it has also something to do with the loyalty bonus. Most players (if not all), have a clause in their contract, that entitles them to a share of the transferfee, agreed between the buying and the selling club. By submitting a written transfer request, a player is prepared to wave his share of the fee goodbye, in order to get permission to speak to the interested club.

At least, that's what I always understood it to be.(y)

i see, i'm just still trying to understand why a player would submit a written request if it can just be rejected. before, i didn't realize that a club could reject a transfer request without any repercussions for them

I suppose it is vaguely like handing your notice in at work. But that usually means you have another job to go to. And you almost always have to work a period of notice.

not really, as he cant just hand in a request and leave, unless of course you mean stay to the end of his contract.
in almost every other job you can hand in your notice then leave at the end of the period of notice. footballers are contracted for specific periods and the contract can only be broken if everyone is in agreement, it may seem unfair compared to other jobs but thats the price they have to pay for the vast sums they earn.
if they dont like it then leaarn to drive a fork-lift, or work in engineering, then lets see what they think about working conditions

Obviously, when my theory is right, the club would get more money, if the player in question is prepared to let his share go in order to get the transfer he wants. Has nothing to do with the legal rights of a player, as a club can simply deny him his request.

That said, don't think it's a healthy situation and today's for the first time, I'm a bit worried over Everton's season. Think it's not good for the team morale, if a player is sulking, because he wants out. For me, the sooner Lescott moves now, the better it is.

I'm with you on that. Remininscent of shrek.

At least Shrek went to the biggest club in the world....

Anyway - kinda links to football, but for a normal job to request a transfer I found this,

Step 1
Ensure that the job transfer meets your personal career goals. Make sure that it is aligned with your company's objectives as well. Your ability to articulate both of these is critical to your being successful in getting that job transfer.
<LI itxtvisited="1">Step 2
Discuss this move with your family. Make sure that they are supportive, especially if the job transfer may require relocating to a different state or country.
<LI itxtvisited="1">Step 3
Develop a business case to present to your boss why the job transfer is beneficial to the company and why you are the best person for the role. Be able to clearly show that this is good for both you and the company.
<LI itxtvisited="1">Step 4
Set an appointment to formally have a career discussion with your boss. This sets the tone that you are serious about the job transfer. If this is a posted position, you may have to submit a resume and interview for the position.
<LI itxtvisited="1">Step 5
Dress appropriately on the day of your appointment and present your case to your boss. Follow up with a written thank you note via email or a card confirming your discussion and reiterating your sincere interest in the job transfer.
<LI itxtvisited="1">Step 6
Present a list of facts on why you are ready for the transfer; for example, you are ready for a new challenge, this is part of your career aspiration, you have been a stellar performer and you believe you will do so in the new role.
<LI itxtvisited="1">Step 7
Prepare for rejection. If you are not afforded the opportunity to transfer, do not be discouraged. Politely inquire why you were not selected and ask that you be considered the next time anther opportunity comes along.

For Football requests from Wiki -

A player may make a "transfer request" [5]. In this case, the player is publicly stating his desire to move, and encouraging other clubs to make an offer for him. Due to the public nature of transfer requests, they may often be used by players to air their grievances in the open, such as frustration over contract negotiations [6] or clash of personality with the manager. Often a player may remove their request if the source of unhappiness is resolved [7]. Alternatively a club can reject a transfer request, effectively stating their intention to reject any offer for their player [8]. In post-Bosman football, the effect of rejecting a transfer request has been weakened, as players can see out their contract and eventually leave for free. Clubs are more inclined to sell the player in order to recoup some money, even if they do not wish to let the player go.

Overall, the player is contracted to the club. The player is contractually obliged to play out the contract unless there are clauses in his contract that can be used to get out of (eg buy out clauses etc) or the club let him go after agreeing a transfer fee.

By asking for a transfer request you are just stating to the employer/club you want to move on. But because they are contracted to the club, the club can reject it and force the player to play out his contract, rejecting any advances by other clubs.

In Lescott's case, he's contracted for 4 years or so. He's handed in a request but because he's contracted we can reject his request being that we dont want to sell. If there are no legal bindings that his lawyers/agent can use to get out of the contract, we can do whatever we want with him because there are legal ramifactions regarding breaking contracts he's already signed.

In other words, if Citeh come back to us with an offer we dont like and reject it...Lescott can either bite the bullet and play for us like he's contracted, or his lawyer will have to find a way out of it...which is very hard to do nowdays.

I've always thought a transfer request was a letter/document stating why the player wants to leave - further his career/fall out with manager etc.. and its then up to the club whether to accept or reject this. If accepted the player is allowed to speak to other clubs, otherwise tough [Poor language removed]. I'd imagine joleon's read : Dear Mr Kenwright, please can i speak to sparky as he's offered me extortionate money and i'm a greedy c¤nt. also mid table mediocrity is an ambition of mine, as is the opportunity of being robihno's mate. Thanks x x x

Look Joleon, how long do you think players last? Like fine wine, in terms of vinegar no doubt. Say it, Your ass goes down in the fourth.
