So Im watching Ted Lasso at the moment and I can't figure out their idea of having the team in the Premier League. Why not make it akin to a Brentford that they haven't been in the top flight for 80 years or even a "they've NEVER been there!". Just dont' see where they go from there.

I imagine it is for the benefit of the American market. The football is almost secondary to the story so all they really need is a clear reference point, which for most will be the Premier League and the big teams. Also the concept of relegation doesn't exist in American sports so a team not having been in the top flight for ages (or never) probably wouldn't have that much meaning.
