TV Series

Had a big think about tv this week. The amount we spend on it is mental. Don’t know what everyone else subscribes to but we have always had sky, Netflix, Amazon, BT sport.

We are cancelling the lot. Just can’t justify spending the money on it all anymore. Not sure why we did in the first place. It’s about time all these companies, especially Sky got a reality check.

It’s firestick o’clock.
I did exactly the same and had all the packages.

Always managed to get some form of discount from Sky, but it was all getting a bit too much like hard work. 45 minutes on the phone and all the back and forth, it must be easier to negotiate a hostage release.

Their latest offer was miserly so I binned it. Had Sky in some form or another since 1996. I'm a bit of a sports junkie so there will definitely be some cold turkey but as you alluded to, it's impossible to justify. There are only so many hours in the day anyway.

I don't find Netflix particularly great either tbh.

In terms of individual episodes, TNG wins out
Interesting take. I would more or less say that the later TNG wins out for baseline episode quality, but that In the Pale Moonlight and Far Beyond the Stars are absolute monsters that even the best TNG episodes can't even begin to touch.

For perspective: utterly loved the first season of DS:9, enjoyed the second season, thought it lost its way in the wilderness after that and thought that the Dominion was a touch contrived from a writing standpoint. That said, when the writers pulled it together the results were absolute diamonds.

Yesterdays Enterprise, The Inner Light, The Measure of a Man. Debate over

Taking the two I mentioned all day long and twice on Sunday. The latter is the only one I would admit to the 'essential' canon, personally.

Sci-fi evaluations, unfortunately, are about what resonates with the individual.

The three I mentioned are broadly considered among the best Star Trek episodes that have ever been. I love DS9, easily the best series, but its best episodes have never gotten close to the best that TnG had to offer imo

Watched the first couple of episodes of Wayne(all4).Enjoying it,not for kids as lots of violence interspersed with black comedy moments. Well worth a watch.
