TV Series

How does it compare to series 1 ( the one of the all time greats ) ?
Not a patch on it…you can’t really compare the two in terms of theme/quality. It’s like they had an idea for a series (not much of one) in a setting that involved a mystery and a detective and just decided it would be more popular if they gave it the True Detective label…its almost like an errant entry into the franchise (the way S2 was).

If season 2 and season 4 were errant to the franchise, maybe there was never really a franchise in the first place?

So what’s the overall consensus on True Detective 4 ?
Season one had a hint of the otherworldly - this hits you over the head with it from the off. Some character development of the deceased may have caused the audience to care about how they came to be. The casting is way off (apart from Kali Reis, who bosses it). The characters are rather shallow and unlikeable.

It is however rather compelling, some how.
