TV Series

First season of For All Mankind. Absolutely brilliant, and I expect nothing less from the mastermind behind DS9 and BSG
It's superb mate.
I found this show comes and goes a bit. Some very annoying characters and unnecessary cheesy bits but some things done really well like the news reports. Haven’t been overly arsed to watch the most recent season mind,

The scenes in space are the best parts.
I dont think I got past episode 1 and I like the boy Killermans.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

I haven`t read the book, so can only go by what I watched with the TV series.

A very worthy attempt at shining a little light and joy, onto one of the most horrendous things to have ever happened in living memory.

Sadly, it felt flat and the fact that there`s so many different actors, with different accents, all speaking English made it feel disjointed.

They`d have been better off letting the German speakers, speak German and use subtitles ( imo )

It looked way, way too polished. When a Zone of Interest came out, there was a lot of talk about all Hollywood films about the holocaust (Inc Schindler's list), and a lot agreed that the best way to show it, is by not showing it. Even Spielberg agreed that he shouldn't have built suspense in the shower scene

A lot of European films get it right, and it's much more harrowing

Spot on.

Even though the Jewish prisoners are all filthy, they’ve got flawless skin, teeth and generally look healthy.

Watching the World At War narrated by Laurence Olivier at the moment, had heard about it and been meaning to see for myself. Brilliantly put together
There's been nothing like it before or since. And the gravitas and persona of Olivier's delivery is a true match for a series brilliantly put together about such a bad and sad period of history that is only now fading from living memory.

The swoop over 'Oradour-sur-Glane' will be a memory for me forever.

that former prince andrew episode of hignfy is repeated and then it's a dopesick double to finish the series. then it's a short break into MotD top ten headers in the PL. Let's see them overlook Cahill and Ferguson this time.

dopesick

Bloody annoyed.
It was never a tale of redemption, fine, I certainly didn't like the 'churching up' in the last episode, there was never going to be a high point with a body count so high, it didn't reach quite far enough for me. Maybe being a uk citizen means I miss some of the nuance and signposts I'd have picked up as a us cit.
What occurred to me part way through the last episode was a film and the balls to get it made, in the same time pit as this stuff was playing out in us culture, media and law - the film is 'the wolf of wall street', or 'qualude city for jerks'. I wonder if the two are connected somehow. Addiction to greed? Greed is good? Hurt whoever you can so long as you are insulated from any reprisal?

Sound familiar?
