Nah not really. Helps in the sense it puts you in the world, and gives you an intro to the Penguin as a character and why the city is in a mess but I wouldn't say it's required to enjoy and understand it.

I just watched the first episode of The Penguin and I gotta say I enjoyed it. Definitely will continue to watch it.

Mrs. PF and I aren't into comic book movies at all - the last one we watched was Joker and I can safely say the last 4 such movies i've watched were the Christopher Nolan Batmans and the J Phoenix Joker. All those Captain America and Spiderman movies - I have no idea how many there are but I haven't watched one of them.

Good to know I don't need to watch whatever the Batman movie was that preceded this. I'm so out of the loop on these comic book movies I didn't even know it existed.

….it was, and the presenter himself was educated at Liverpool University. The programmes are a very clever concept.

I’m intrigued as to what they do with the next movie, given the focus on this series. I would imagine the antagonist will possible be a character we've not seen before in live action, but with a penguin sub plot.

They’ve already discussed several villains they could introduce like Hush or the Court of Owls which we’ve never seen live action before and they’re not unrealistic for the setting like say Freeze would be. Also mentioned Clayface who I’d hope would be the original version.

what about Barry Keoghan’s Joker? Be weird if they just ignored him in the sequel but I guess he could continue to just be a weirdo in Arkham for the sequel

Well he’s not in the cinema cut, only extended, so technically don’t have to go back to him at all. If they do I think his role of a sort of Hannibal Lecter in SotL be okay with him just staying in Arkham.
