Not sure whether to post this here or in the CA section given Musks seemingly political motivation...
but, do a lot on here use Twitter, are people considering moving away from it?
I know a lot hate twitter and always have, this isn't really directed at you.

I've found it an incredible tool to grow our everton support here in new england. And for many other reasons I'be been a regular user and big fan.
But it seems like musks changes are beginning to take effect and the site will continue to move away from what I'm looking for.
I started using Blue sky at the weekend and so far it looks like the closest thing to a viable alternative.
havent found any toffees on there yet tho.

any thoughts on the demise of twitter and what might replace it.

I moved to Mastodon when man-child bought twitter, but Mastodon isn't that great. You can't really do threads on it (you can, but it's a pain), and the format is not as good as twitter. I've pretty much stopped using it. I've never heard of bluesky. Will check it out.

About 10 years ago I was on Ello, which I liked (more of a blog format) but mostly artists and writers, so it was a cool crowd. Stopped using it only because I was trying to limit my online time. It was decent and if I were to get back into social media, I'd probably go there.

cool, never heard of it, I'll check it out (tho less internet time is probably better!)
 

I thought you had to be invited to join Blue Sky? Or at least have to join the queue

so blue sky is open or in beta? IMO social media needs a critical mass before it is useful, and twitter still has that. but then I'm not an early adopter at anything, so I'll try to catch the best life raft just as twitter settles below the surface.

I think it's in public beta. I saw Dorsey invested in it last year so I figured I'd sign up for an invite and one came last week.
Definitely the closest thing to twitter.
Rumors are now swirling that Musk is about to charge the user for click throughs to news articles.
Basically he wants your financial info for access to links.
I guess it means content creators can profit off twitter but I'll be damned if I'm giving musk my credit card details.
Threads are already ruined by paid for blue ticks getting preferential treatment in sub tweets. Doesn't help that all the blue ticks are now musk sycophants, maybe that's the wrong word.
 
I only really use twitter to tweet about spiritualism/photography work but I have recently started to tweet again about footie as have a good level of Evertonian followers from prior years who have stuck around.

For that reason I'll still use it over lesser known platforms unless it becomes too much hassle down the line.
