Player Valuation: £225k
I’m not a ranter, I try to be objective about things but even the calmest of people couldn’t help but be furious about where we find our club today. I made the mistake of having a quick look at our current playing squad and without wanting to sound dramatic, barring Gordon, Pickford, Godfrey, Doucs, a few younger players and an injury wrecked DCL, it’s really poor and unless we do some extremely smart business, next season is going to be a real struggle.

I know this has been said before but looking at the official releases yesterday, Delph, Kenny, El Ghazi, Sigurdsson, Tosun, VDB if published numbers are to be believed, that’s £400k per week and £21m pa. Added to that Richy (who only the clubs 6th highest earner) that’s around £500k pw.

That is just a staggering number for such average players barring Richy and that’s before we talk about some of the others who’s wages are ridiculous.

To add further perspective. Mina, Delph, Sigurdsson, Gomes and VDB - representing 5 of our 7 highest paid players at £24.6m pa, racked up a whopping 1961 minutes of play last season - that’s £12,521 per minute.

So taking all of that into account and the current playing squad we have, my initial thought is… how does someone who’s been so successful in business, make such horrifically bad decisions and be so easily influenced by con-artists.

A fool and his money eh… ?‍♂️

It’s a very good post mate and do you know what, it’s an important post. The sum of all Evertons woes lie in the context of your post, it’s the absolute reason we’re skint, can’t sign anyone, have our backsides to the wind on regulation.

By the way we have saved 42 million in costs, wages end etc this window so far. ;)

Thanks mate and that is the silver lining of course. Just a shame that we take our positives from saving money that should never have been spent in the first place.

That being said, isn’t it interesting that we initially took such pleasure spending and now it’s in saving.

Sure there’s a wider message in there somewhere ?

I think it’s worth remembering that before Moshiri came along we were also lacking funding and heading nowhere, just for different reasons.
Plus we had no chance of a new or even an upgraded stadium whatsoever.
Moshiri’s mistake has been too much impatience and lack of faith in his DoFs (although Walsh was a poor appointment which he rectified.).
He has to learn to step back and leave football people to do their job and to persevere longer with his choices and not be swept along by supporters dissatisfaction.
It might also help if he could remove Kenwright and his appointments from the board.
