Unfullfilled potential

James Vaughan should be nowhere that list.

Due to his fearless, one hundred miles an hour style of play, injuries did him.

He`d have gone onto be a legend, if his knees hadn`t gone at such a young age.
Too fast for his own knees sadly.

He's still at the club as Loan manager, by the by, and apparently quite good at it (I read this from a random article by one of our loanees a while back, be arsed finding it, but happy for him).

Smith was fuming with Ball and Dunne after getting knocked out of a cup game. They've both had decent careers I reckon so not too bad.

Still guts me how it all went wrong for Billy.
Billy Kenny could have been a player, just wrong attitude and mates dragging him down,
Buddy coyle another one same had everything but the attitude.,
He was a nice lad, just couldn't let go of his outside influences.

I'd say Jose Baxter, he was touted as the next Rooney but was nowhere close.
Whilst the likes of Barkley, Rodwell, Davies and Gosling regressed or never quite hit their potential they still contributed to Everton with some decent first team appearances and continued play at top level clubs to varying degrees.

George Telfer was sensational in the Youth and reserves, but never quite hit the heights. Similar with Tony Grant, great passer but it never really worked out for him.

The raw ability Barkley had was at a different level to most of these guys being mentioned. Between not being properly coached, injuries and poor transfer decisions he ended up a meh player when at his best he was capable of dominating a game in a way few can.

Thought Deulofeu had skill to be great player, just didn't have stamina. Rodwell similar to Billy whatever his name was, played in wrong position. Vaughan just had bad injuries.

In their time with Everton, or career in general?

As you could probs say Rodwell, Baxter, Vaughan maybe.
Time at Everton and after. Barkley was most infuriating, because he had ability. I would say Lukaku did well at Everton, but was useless after leaving Everton. Sadly other than Stones our young prospects were ruined by Martinez.

….in the 90’s we had an Academy player called Jon O’Connor that was expected to be the next big thing. It was a time when the country’s most talented youngsters travelled and trained with the full England squad but sadly it never happened for this lad.

I suppose Kieran Dowell never truly fulfilled his potential after winning the World Cup with England youth. Saying that, he’s made a very decent living out of the game, I notice him coming on as sub for Rangers recently. Ryan Ledson in a similar category, captaining his country at youth level but has had a decent career in the Championship.
