The first Barnsley fan I knew from Twitter said he's not on the same planet as Stones but was a better pure defender. He just looks like he has 'it'

yeh i mean it was probably hyperbole from the old lad, but like you said, he just has that same composure and coolness. It's what we loved about Stones (but now for some reason he gets criticised for it).

to add to this, a few of my mates are in his year and know him through school friends etc. sound, down to earth lad by all accounts.

Stones is very much the same, or at least was when I met him a few months before he joined us! (didn't know who he was then, like. just that he's shoddy at beer pong).

I remember the first time i heard about Holgate - before he signed for us. It was after an England U21 match at Oakwell end of 2014/15. Stones played so it was a near full house.

This old lad got talking to me and my Dad, we said we were Everton fans and he said 'Holgate could be better than Stones, and Stones is one of the best I've seen at that age'. Few weeks later we'd signed the lad.

Now, not saying it's a sure thing that he's better, or even likely, Stones is class and will only improve. But based on these few games Holgate definitely looks capable of big things.

Just looks a better defender to me, but hang on that Fellaini's just whipped me up
