Unluckiest Everton Players Ever

Wayne Rooney

Sold as a teenager in a deal that took him away well before he made the team (according to Ferguson's autobiography).

Comes back to have hopefully a great season with us again and he gets the summer of Walsh, koeman trying to get himself fired and Sam allardyce all in one year.

Already referenced, but Joe Parkinson always comes to mind. I was young at the time but I remember seeing him slowly but steadily developing into a really good midfielder, his game becoming more expansive, especially in Royle's 95-96 season where we had the makings of a quality team. In addition to being a good combative defensive mid he was also showing signs of a real range of passing and a decent bit of skill at times, as well as being able to get up and down the pitch much more than our other midfielders - a little like James McCarthy in his first year here.

He was unlucky in the sense that his career effectively ended when he was 24-25, a series of knee injuries curtailing his development when he was being spoken about as an England call-up. A shame for him and for us as well.

....it all worked out well, but Fred Pickering missing the ‘66 FA Cup Final must’ve been devastating for the fella given he said he was fit to play and had a magnificent goal scoring record for us.

On a general point, spare a thought for any young player having their dreams extinguished after released by the club.
