USA v Slovenia

No because I want Bocanegra's head in there on set pieces. He'll get at least one this World Cup.
 
I would like to see BB start Torres in mid, Clark is too dicey a player and did not play all that well against England. Great to hear that Howard is well and will start I think. I also would like to see Buddle start and then Findlay come on as a sub, but not too late in the match. Only to replace whatever forward is not cutting it, also Gomez, if we really need a goal.

I do not believe that the US will take this team lightly, but they have to come out firing. This might be BB's most difficult game to decide subs. He can not lay back and start Spector or Bornstein in defense. He can not toy with Beasley and Holdren has to be a sub unless he feels the need to slot Dempsey into a more forward position. I like LD on the wings and running to the middle.

I do not love BB but I do feel that he does his homework.
 
I could see starting him starting Clark over Torres again and bringing Torres on in the 2nd half if we are tied/losing. Our defense is still a little shaky and Slovenia's best chance of scoring is through a defensive error while we should still be able to score 2 or more with Bradley and Clark in the lineup.

When I like to get PO'ed I got on bigsoccer.com and read the USMNT posts. Its like the idiocy of Rawk multiplied by the assholeness of bluemoon taken 10 power.

According to bigsoccer I'm supposed to believe that Bradley is:

-angling for a 2nd place finish so we get Germany and therefore no one will critizing for losing in the 1st knockout round

-that Super Genius manager Gus Hiddink would smash Slovenia 7-0 while we'll stuggle to a hard fought 2-0 victory. Pay no attention to the fact that he lost to Slovenia in the playoffs with a more talented team than the US has. The Russian players conspired to lose the playoffs so that Hiddink wouldn't leave for America after leading Russia to the World Cup finals.

-that he single handedly ruined Adu's career causing him to be a washout in every club he's ever been at because he's a racist

-That Torres doesn't start because he doesn't want his son shown up in the central midfield and because he's a racist

-That he conspired with Sochaux to keep Davies off the squad and started Findley because he's a card carrying member of the KKK and only wants white players like Findley in the starting 11.
 
There are some real idiots on Big Soccer. There are also some informed and intelligent posters on there. Unfortunately, you've got to take the bad with the good.
 

I hope you qualify for the later stages and to be honest I think both England and the USA will,so far from the games i have seen there is not much to choose between any of the so called favs. although that will change in te knock out stage
 
You know what, I've decided that I'm not going to sit around and fret over this game... that is, I'm not going to play the "we should win this game but we have a way of losing these types of matches" card. It's the world cup, no team is easy (except for South Africa). I'm confident we'll win. If we don't, shame on us, but I fully expect to get the win because Im that confident in our manager and players on the pitch.

Agree.. 3 points is the only result for me.. anything less is a failure in my eyes..
 

I don't think a draw is the end of the world. They're a decent team.

A draw however and then we'd have to beat Algeria. If we can't beat Algeria, then we really didn't deserve to go through anyway. I'd rather have the win but a draw won't kill us.

A draw could mean trouble.. We would probably have to beat Algeria by 2 or more goals, and this world cup has been funny about the goals..

Not wrong there. We're most dangerous on set pieces so I hope we get a few in dangerous areas. But creating goals from open play has never been a USA strong suit. We can do it, just not all that often.
